Cappies  2023-2024 Lead Critic
Natalie Laclede (Class of 2024)

The Cappies (Critics and Awards Program) is an international program for recognizing, celebrating, and providing learning experiences for high school theater and journalism students and teenage playwrights.

Edison keeps a team of nine student critics, with one alternate, for the school year. After training, these critics see a variety of plays and musicals throughout the region. At each performance, the Cappies discuss the production, and, working on strict deadlines, write a journalistic-style review of each show they see.

At the end of the season, the critics come together to vote on the nominations for performers, crew members, play, musical and many more awards. Nominations are announced in early May and everyone looks forward to the Cappies Gala - the Tony Awards-style awards celebration - in June at the Kennedy Center.
